Baked Salted Egg Custard Bun
Salted Egg Buns are a dime a dozen these days, but the Baked Salted Egg Custard Bun (S$6.80) at Dim Sum Haus is truly a star. Filled with oozy, smooth, sweet and savoury salted egg custard, this is heaven in a bite. They are also not the usual steam baos but instead a crusty casing that is similar to Hong Kong-style baked barbecue pork buns. Simply delectable and a must-order!
Century Egg and Lean Meat Congee
If you’re one of those that need a bowl of congee to round up your dim sum meal, then make sure to try the Century Egg and Lean Meat Congee (S$6.80). What you get is a smooth, creamy and comforting bowl of congee with generous amounts of century egg and fried you tiao. You’ll also be surprised to find that the you tiao remains crispy even after it’s been soaking in the congee for awhile! All in...
Japanese Dumplings
While you might struggle to find the Japanese element in the Japanese Dumplings (S$6.10), they are actually a combination of Japanese gyozas and Cantonese har gow! Shaped like a gyoza but steamed like har gow, each translucent dumpling encased prawns, black fungus and minced meat. Each dumpling was plump and stuffed full of ingredients, with a good crunch from the prawns. Tiny pieces of red chilli...
The Crispy Mee Suah Kueh with Chinese Sausage
The Crispy Mee Suah Kueh with Chinese Sausage (S$5) is another one of Dim Sum Haus’ signature items. The dish feels like a zhuzhed up version of carrot cake. It has bits of Chinese sausage and mushroom throughout and is sandwiched between two layers of mee suah, which then fried to give it an extra crispy mee suah exterior!
The Steamed Charcoal Chicken & Shrimp Dumpling
The Steamed Charcoal Chicken & Shrimp Dumpling (S$5.50) is a different take on the classic Siew Mai, as skin comes in a black charcoal version and it is topped with tobiko. It doesn’t taste all that much different from the regular Siew Mai, but visually it is stunning and it’s worth ordering just for the photo op!
The Steamed Crispy Rice Roll with Shrimp
The Steamed Crispy Rice Roll with Shrimp (S$5.80) will also take you by surprise with its fresh huge prawns which are fried, then wrapped in layers of thin and smooth rice rolls. The accompanying sweet and savoury soy sauce isn’t too overpowering, with just the right amount of umami. Each mouthful is a burst of flavours and textures!
Xiao Long Bao
How could we forget everyone’s favourite – Xiao Long Bao (S$5)? Every bite is enjoyable as each xiao long bao is filled with a good ratio of broth and meat, however some might find the skin a little too thick for their liking. While it is above average and worth ordering, it will probably not be the best xiao long bao you’ve ever had.
