Who’s keeping count of how many months it’s been since we were able to travel freely? Thankfully, the melting pot of cultures that makes up Singapore means that we never have to look far if we’re craving a particular cuisine. For your fill of Vietnamese classics like banh mi, pho and goi cuon, here are some of our favourite Vietnamese restaurants in Singapore!
1. Lang Nuong Vietnam
Touted as Singapore’s first authentic Vietnamese BBQ restaurant, Lang Nuong Vietnam emulates that unique streetside BBQ experience with their stall at Foch Road. It even has the low tables and chairs that we see so often on Vietnamese streets! The meat is marinated and grilled over charcoal, and you will no doubt leave smelling like a BBQ. But that’s just part of the unique experience of a little piece of Vietnam right here in Singapore!
2. Moc Quan
Moc Quan prides itself for its authentic Vietnamese food, so much so that it imports ingredients from Vietnam weekly. It even brought in a special oven for their banh mi! All of their furniture and decor items are also sourced from the country, making you feel like you’ve stepped into the countryside. Enjoy delicious street food such as banh xeo, cha gio, pho ga and many more, minus the honking and army bikes on the streets.
3. La Saigon
A specialty Vietnamese cafe and bistro, La Saigon is the place to go if you’re craving for a cup of authentic Vietnamese coffee. Their coffee beans are handpicked by farmers in Vietnam, and roasted in Singapore for maximum freshness and flavour. Pair your Viet drip coffee or iced coffee with their best-selling pho or banh mi, made with freshly baked sourdough bread.
4. Red Sparrow
Nestled in the heart of Dempsey Hill, Red Sparrow was recently awarded the Viet Authentic Premium Cuisine by the Vietnam Ministry of Trade and Industry! Serving up comforting and delightful Vietnamese cuisine, you will find classic items to lesser known dishes like thit kho tau (pork belly braised in coconut and soy sauce glaze), canh chua (sour soup) and lagu ga nam (Vietnamese chicken stew). Complete your meal with some local Vietnamese beer, wine, or Vietnam-inspired cocktails.
5. NamNam Noodle Bar
We’re no stranger to NamNam, a go-to spot when we want a quick fix at wallet-friendly prices. With three centrally-located outlets in Singapore, its fresh, wholesome, and no MSG-added Vietnamese dishes has proved to be popular. NamNam is also on its way to becoming a more eco-friendly franchise by eliminating the use of single-use plastics. If you’re ordering takeaways, bring your own reusable container or tumbler for your morning coffee and avoid the takeaway charge!
6. Mrs Pho
Another well known Vietnamese chain here, Mrs Pho is a tribute to all the Vietnamese mothers, grandmothers and aunties we affectionately know as the best cook in the family. Though it is primarily a pho joint, there are also many other dishes on the menu such as stewed chicken wings with lemongrass, cockles stir-fried with lard and Saigon chilli prawns.
