6 Home-Based Bakers Serving Up Korean Macarons AKA Fatcarons

We don’t usually rave much about Korean desserts, but supersized macarons called ddung-carons have been all the rage lately. The name literally translates to ‘fat-carons’ (ddung means ‘fat’ in Korean), and with 2-3 times more fillings than French macarons, they are meant to be savoured slowly.

Read on to find out more on where to get Korean fat macarons in Singapore!

Whites Bakery

Whites Bakery is a home-based bakery specializing in basque burnt cheesecakes and, you guessed it, fat macarons. They’ve released a few series over the months, from the tea series that come in Honey Lemon Chamomile, Thai Milk Tea, Dark Chocolate Earl Grey flavour, and a local flavour series with Milo Stylo, Taro and Teh Tarik. They also take in customized orders, so shoot them a DM and tell them what you like!

Nanatang Bakes

Another home-based bakery to look at for fat macarons is Nanatang Bakes. With 10 different flavours you'll definitely be spoilt for choice, from local inspired ones like Ondeh Ondeh and Orh Nee, to classic ones like Oreo Cheesecake and Apple Cinnamon Crumble. If you like savoury and sweet, they even have a unique Ham & Cheese flavour featuring actual slices of ham! Nanatang also runs their own workshops, so you can learn how to make everything from fat macarons to cupcakes and french pastries.

The Crash Baker

These fatcarons are almost too precious to eat. What caught our eye was their Yaghwa Hojicha Latte – a combination of a nutty filling and a finish of molasses topped with yakgwa, a traditional Korean snack. You can now preorder a box of six with three flavours that includes the aforementioned, along with Matcha Red Bean and Chocolate Earl Grey. DM to order!

Sweedy Patisserie

Love macarons? Love durians too? Then check out the Mao Shan Wang Durian fatcaron at Sweedy Patisserie. Released as a special flavour over National Day, it was such a hit that it was added to the menu as a permanent flavour. The fatcaron is filled with vanilla bean buttercream combined with juicy Mao Shan Wang flesh and then finished and coated with homemade almond crumbs. Talk about a decadent treat.

Yummy AF

Yummy AF creates what they call eclectic stuffed macarons. They've released three series thus far – The Signature Series with Earl Grey and Creme Brulee flavours, The Old Skool Series featuring S'mores and Butterbeer, and lastly The Superfood Series that has Acai and Strawberry Cheesecake flavours. Place your orders via Pickupp!

Sum Sum Makalong

Tell me the fat macarons at Sum Sum Makalong aren't some of the prettiest ones you've seen? They also come in ten flavours that you can't go wrong with – Vanilla Cream, Strawberry, Blueberry Yogurt, Raspberry Cream Cheese, Raspberry Banana, Chocolate Almond, Chocolate Crispearl, Coffee Jollypong, Matcha Latte and Chocolate Oreo. These little delights come in boxes of six, eight, 12 or 24 and you can order via DM.
