10 Local Cafes and Bakeries With the Most Unique Donuts

I’m sure that many of you, like me, have a serious love for donuts thanks to the neighbourhood bakery below your HDB. These days, donuts are returning to the spotlight thanks to a growing number of local bakers and homegrown specialty stores that are pushing out ever-inventive flavours.

From local inspired flavours such as Milo Dinosaur and Ondeh Ondeh, to unique takes such as stuffed bombolinis with sourdough, here are some of the most unique donuts you can find in Singapore!

Doughnut Shack

This donut specialty shop has everything we crave for and more. Think donuts, bombolins, beignets, cake doughnuts… We’ll stop before you start drooling. Orders come in boxes of six, 20 and 25, with all sorts of assorted flavours. Think Crème Brûlée, Milo Oreo Crunch, Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, Peanut Butter Jam, S’mores and many more! Their flavours also rotate monthly, so be sure to check their Instagram page for more details.

Burnt Ends Bakery

Burnt Ends Bakery, the sister concept of Michelin-starred restaurant Burnt Ends, has been having great success lately, thanks to their Milo Dinosaur Doughnut – brioche doughnuts filled with a silken Milo cream and topped with Milo biscuits. They were originally made for the Singapore Food Festival 2020, but the traction it gained gave them a permanent place on the Burnt Ends Bakery menu. Want to get your hands on some? Make your order online here!

Haritts

This Japanese donut joint is known for being different (in the best ways), and every bite is chewy, pillowy and filled with flavour without going overboard on the sugar. Here, small batches of donuts are made with utmost care, and you’ll find familiar favourites such as Nutella and Cream Cheese, alongside the locally-inspired Kaya, Matcha White Chocolate, Pistachio, Cinnamon Currants and more. Pre-orders get snapped up pretty quickly, so keep tabs on Haritts’ Instagram page for updates!

Sourbombe

Masterchef Singapore runner-up Genevieve Lee now runs Sourbombe Bakery, where she creates her own sourdough bombolini. This online bakery has one-of-a-kind fillings that take from hot food trends, like the Basque Burnt Cheesecake doughnut, Lavender-Lime Mascarpone and Houjicha Caramel Crunch. They are also fried in coconut oil so they are healthier too! Pre-order on her website.

Curious Palette

We love Curious Palette for brunch grub, sandwiches and pancakes – but less talked about are their donuts, which we think deserve just as much attention! Round up your meal with a box of six donuts that come in two of each flavour: Candied Bacon, Salted Espresso Caramel and Cinnamon Twist.

City Donut

Nestled along Telok Ayer, City Donut is the new kid on the block that specialises in doughnuts made with a local twist. Their bestseller is the Pandan Ondeh-Ondeh, where fragrant pandan dough meets a sticky gula melaka glaze and coconut filling. The Orh Nee and the Pulut Hitam also has its own share of fans, and both taste remarkably close to the desserts they are inspired by!

The Fat Kid Bakery

A home baker nailing sourdough bombolinis is The Fat Kid Bakery. Their menu is divided into their classic flavours and their fruit series. The former has Chocolate, Vanilla, Earl Grey and Salted Caramel, while the latter has more inventive ones like the autumnal Brown Butter Apple Cinnamon to Blueberry Cheesecake, along with Summer Berries and Calamansi. Sold in boxes of four, eight, 10, 12 or more upon request. Make your orders by sending them a DM!

Kind Kones

Looking for donuts that cater to your allergies or dietary restrictions? Look no further than Kind Kones. The ice cream parlour at Forum Mall also dishes out gluten-free goods for those on a vegan diet. Baked instead of fried, the chocolate donut is made with almonds, flax seeds, apple sauce, agave and pistachio toppings – a perfect pairing with a scoop of ice cream.

Nutcase Doughnuts

Thanks to Nutcase Doughnuts, a local home baker, gourmet donuts are now made affordable. Their flavours lean towards the experimental, think Lavender Creme Brulee, Black Sesame Praline, Mango Kaffir Lime and more, with glazes made from scratch. The menu changes regularly, and you can only do pre-orders for the upcoming week. Delivery and self-collection options are available. Order here!

Da Paolo Gastronomia

The humble donut has evolved at Da Paolo Gastronomia into their signature crodos – a croissant and donut hybrid that brings together the best of both worlds. Flaky on the outside, fluffy on the inside, this buttery croissant pastry features flavours such as Chocolate Hazelnut, Glazed, Cream and Cinnamon Sugar. They come in four pieces, which is perfect because you can’t just stop at one.
