Starbucks Launches Impossible Rendang Pie, Milo Dinosaur Cake, and Other Locally Inspired Delights

Love having your midday coffee accompanied by a treat? Starbucks Singapore has launched the Impossible Rendang Pie, along with other locally inspired delights, to celebrate our nation's upcoming National Day.

Let's take a look at all the savoury pies and sweet treats from Starbucks’ limited-time Shiok! Food.

Impossible™ Rendang Pie

ICYMI, Impossible Foods develops plant-based substitutes for meat products, and the brand is best known for their Impossible™ Burger, which tastes remarkably like ground beef. Impossible Foods is a growing trend across the globe, and it's been about a year and a half since it entered Singapore's market. Personally, I'm super stoked that Starbucks is venturing into Impossible Foods territory!

Made with a buttery, flaky shortcrust pastry and featuring a filling of ground Impossible™ Burger, this Impossible™ Rendang Pie is a meatless twist on a classic local flavour. Its filling of carrots, edamame, potatoes, and a hard-boiled egg is also slow-cooked in a rich rendang gravy.

General manager of Starbucks Singapore, Patrick Kwok, said that this dish will be the first of a new selection of plant-based foods.

More options for our local vegetarians and vegans! I stan.

Black Pepper Chicken Pie

Now for the meat eaters: choose between chunks of chicken, carrots and bell peppers mixed with black pepper and brown beef gravy for a hearty kick, or:

Curry Chicken Pot Pie

A buttery and flaky pie stuffed with aromatic curry chicken filling for a rich and creamy enjoyment. They are best eaten hot, and perfect for those days when you need a little spice as a midday pick-me-up!

Onto the sweet treats shall we?

Ondeh Ondeh Mousse Cake

Instead of glutinous rice, our favorite ondeh-ondeh has been upsized into a fluffy pandan mousse cake that's bursting with syrupy gula melaka and coconut flakes – teatime sugar fix anyone?

Milo Dinosaur Cake

Milo Dinosaur was my favourite drink as a child (much to the dismay of my elders), and I most definitely did not grow out of it. And how many of you also went sneaking around the kitchen just to steal a couple spoonfuls of Milo powder into your mouth?

The Milo Dinosaur Cake offers to let us relive the experience with layers of fluffy chocolate sponge cake, chocolate and vanilla mousse topped with generous amounts of Milo powder. A truly decadent treat for both the young and old.

Brown Sugar Boba Gem Cake

Just take a look at that – an upsized version of everyone's favourite iced gem biscuits! But this isn’t really an iced gem biscuit, it’s a brown sugar boba iced gem cake. Bubble tea lovers can rejoice too! The cake harbours chewy, delicious pearls on the inside and it's topped off with "iced gem" buttercream.

The Impossible™ Rendang Pie along with the other five locally-inspired pastries is now available at all Starbucks outlets across Singapore, and you can also order them online through Foodpanda, Deliveroo and GrabFood until August 11, 2020!

Try it and let us know what you think!
