5 Yummy Nasi Padang in Singapore For the Best Rendang, Tahu Telor and Ayam Bakar

Hailing from Indonesia, Nasi Padang is a kaleidoscope of flavours from ingredients like lime, fresh chilli, coconut milk, lemongrass, tamarind and galangal root. The mix of meats, fishes and vegetables comes in all kinds of sambals and sauces, all of which is paired with plain white rice. Are you ready for the full-bodied flavours of nasi padang? Here are some of the best nasi padang in Singapore!

1. Warong Nasi Pariaman

Warong Nasi Pariaman is believed to be the oldest surviving stall in the city to serve nasi padang, and they have been operating at the same spot since 1948! Now the second generation of the founder’s family runs the shop, opening at 4am to make sure that all their dishes are ready for sale at 10am. Their Beef Rendang is considered pretty legendary in Singapore, especially since they cook it without coriander and cumin – a common ingredient in the dish!

2. Sari Ratu

The layout and decor of the stall might be simple, but the food here is fit for royals. This Indonesian chain restaurant, originally from Padang, serves up authentic food with no-frills. Indulge in their signature dishes such as Ikan Pari, Udang Petai, Sop Buntut, Gulai Kambing, Ayam Bakar and many more.

3. Rumah Makan Minang

Another nasi padang spot that’s been around for a really long time (1954 to be exact), Rumah Makan Minang specialises in reasonably-priced Minangkabau cuisine, namely Nasi Padang and Beef Rendang. Some of the other popular dishes include Ayam Bakar Padang, Tahu Telur, Ikan Bakar Berempah and Sayur Buncis.

4. Sabar Menanti

Another nasi padang veteran, Sabar Menanti first started from a small food stall over 57 years ago. And at its height in 1998, the family owned six restaurants! Today, the sole outlet remains at North Bridge Road. For breakfast, popular items are the Nasi Lemak, Mee Siam, Mee Rebus and Lontong. For lunch, get the Nasi Padang and add on ingredients like Beef Rendang, Begedil and more.

5. Hjh Maimunah Restaurant

Hjh Maimunah is the only nasi padang stall in Singapore that was awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand, so you know they have to be doing something right. If you are craving for some Nasi Padang, top-selling items to include with your rice are Ayam Bakar Sunda, Beef Rendang and BBQ Selar Fish. Also look out for the seasonal Signature Lemak Siput Sedut, a type of snails that’s cooked in a coconut-based gravy!
