5 Top Spots For Japanese Curry in Singapore

The stew-like Japanese curry might not be as spicy as the fiery curries out there, but that's what makes it so satisfyingly comforting when paired with white rice or katsu. Today, we’re sharing our top favourite spots for Japanese curry in Singapore! Do you agree with our choices? Click here to vote and let us know!

1. Monster Curry

Monster Curry is perhaps the most famous Japanese curry chain in Singapore, known for their monster portions as well as a smooth yet aromatic curry with five different spice levels. One of the most popular items here is the Monster Curry Combo which comprises pork katsu, pork shabu-shabu, shrimp tempura, fried fish and cheese served alongside rice and their signature curry sauce!

2. Coco Ichibanya

Also known as Coco Ichi, this well-known chain restaurant is no newbie to Japanese curry rice, having a history dating back to 1978. Your plate of curry rice here is entirely customisable, from how much rice to the level of spice, the quantity of curry and choice of toppings. Certified by the Guinness World Records as the largest curry restaurant chain in the world, their three locations in Singapore means that a comforting plate of Japanese curry is never too far away.

3. Hoshino Coffee

Hoshino Coffee might be known for its souffle pancakes and filtered coffee but they also make their own curry sauce and demi-glace! One of the star dishes here is the Curry Omurice, served with a curry sauce that is fragrant without being too spicy. Along with their coffee, the curry here is also something that gets great reviews consistently and it's not hard to see why!

4. Maruhachi Donburi

Maruhachi is known for their premium Japanese dishes at reasonable prices, and in a short time they've quickly grown to seven outlets! Specialising in teishoku sets, curry rice and donburi bowls, the curry here is thick and flavourful, neither too spicy nor too sweet. It looks unsuspecting, but when mixed up with the rice and katsu it creates the perfect bite. It's a steep price point for a hawker meal, but a simple Google search will tell you that it is very much worth the price.

5. Tonkichi

Tonkichi ranks high amongst Japanese curry lovers for its authentic tonkatsu as well as its cosy ambience resembling the casual eateries in Japan. This Japanese restaurant has been around since 1992, offering signature dishes like the Rosu Katsu (deep-fried pork loin), Hire Katsu (deep-fried pork fillet) and Chicken Katsu (deep-fried chicken fillet). Every set includes white rice, a side serving of cabbage and a generous helping of homemade curry sauce!
