Apart from stylish and wallet-friendly furniture, IKEA is also known for its food (find me somebody who doesn’t like their chicken wings and meatballs!) Over the years, IKEA has been creatively incorporating our favourite local flavours into its menu. When the furniture store launched their salted egg yolk chicken wings last year, Singaporeans went into a frenzy.
We all know that the mala trend isn’t dying down anytime soon. It’s almost as if a love for all things mala is compulsory for one to be classified as a true blue Singaporean! IKEA seems to agree, as they’ve incorporated this major food trend into their menu for a limited time.
From now till February 2021, you’ll be able to get Mala Chicken Wings (S$9.50 for 6 pcs) and Mala Chicken Leg With Spaghetti (S$9) at IKEA.
6pcs Mala Chicken Wings
An elevated twist on the staple at IKEA’s dining hall, the 6pcs Mala Chicken Wings is a breath of fresh air to all mala-lovers. Marinated with dry mala spices like peppercorns, chilli flakes, star anise and tossed with chilli padi for some extra heat, expect a fragrant burst of flavours. Spice levels are said to be tolerable, but prepare a glass of water before you tuck in, just in case.
The skin retains its signature crisp and deep tan colours, while the meat is as juicy as it’s always been. The 6pcs Mala Chicken Wings are available from now until 28 Feb 2021.
Mala Chicken Leg With Spaghetti
Another mala dish to try is the Mala Chicken Leg With Spaghetti ($9), featuring a whole chicken leg along with a side of spaghetti and boiled broccoli and generously drenched with a numbingly spicy mala sauce. Makes for a hearty and colourful plate. The Mala Chicken Leg With Spaghetti won’t be around as long – it will only be available from now until 7 Feb 2021.
Barbecue Pork Ribs With Fries
If you’re not a mala fan, IKEA also has a new Barbecue Pork Ribs With Fries ($12), where a tender half-rack of ribs comes dressed in honeyed barbecue sauce. This will be on the menu till 28 Feb 2021 as well.
All dishes are available at IKEA Alexandra and Tampines.
