Here Are the 8 Singapore Restaurants on This Year's List of Asia's 50 Best Restaurants

Eight Singapore restaurants have made it on the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list, up from six last year!

French fine-dining establishment Odette fell from it’s top spot to be the second this year, however it remains Singapore’s best restaurant for the third year in a row. Topping the list is Hong Kong restaurant The Chairman, marking the first time a Hong Kong restaurant has held the place.

Let’s take a look at the eight local restaurants that made it onto the list!

Jaan by Kirk Westaway

Jaan by Kirk Westaway fell by 21 spots to place at 42 this year. Since taking over Jaan, British chef Kirk Westaway continues to put his own spin on English classics such as Fish & Chips and English Garden, a beautiful plate of over 30 vegetables, herbs and edible flowers. His newest signature is a roasted langoustine with green asparagus (for the uninitiated, that’s a lobster). Did we also mention that the restaurant sits on level 70 of Swissôtel, and offers views of Singapore like no other?

Euphoria

Opened in November 2020, Euphoria is a newest addition to the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list and takes 41 place this year. It is the newest venture by Jason Tan, former Corner House chef, and his partner Arissa Wang. Dubbing his style ‘gastro-botanica 2.0’, Euphoria is a botanical-led establishment that elaborates on vegetables, tubers, herbs, spices and fruits. Onions are the unlikely focal point, featuring in not just one, but three of Tan’s signature dishes. They are even hinted in the restaurant’s wall motifs and chandelier!

Labyrinth

Another new addition to the list, Labyrinth also won the Flor de Caña Sustainable Restaurant Award 2021. Helmed by former banker Han Li Guang (better known as LG), the restaurant not only reinvents our local flavours but also champions local produce and making sustainability a national conversation. So unsurprisingly, the menu comprises locally sourced ingredients and even underappreciated ones like ulam raja, oyster plant, and locally farmed pearl garoupa, quail and barramundi.

Address: 8 Raffles Avenue, Esplanade Mall, #02-23, Singapore 039802

Cloudstreet

Making the list this year is also Cloudstreet, the signature restaurant of Sri Lanka-born and Australia-trained Rishi Naleendra and his wife Manuela Toniolo. The menu draws from Naleendra’s cultural heritage and years spent down under. His signature dish is a Western Australian marron served with millet cooked in a Sri Lankan yellow curry. It tells you everything you need to know about the restaurant, how it pays homage to Naleendra’s motherland with a contemporary twist.

Zén

Climbing up five spots from last year is Zén, who comes in at 23 this year. The Singapore offspring of Michelin-starred Stockholm restaurant Frantzén, Zén offers distinct spaces for different experiences – an aperitif and amuse-bouche on the first floor, the neo-Nordic, eight-course tasting menu with Japanese influences is presented on the second floor, and coffee and petit fours and coffee in the living room on the top floor. It might be one of Singapore’s most expensive restaurants, but an experience here is truly unforgettable.

Address: 41 Bukit Pasoh Road, Singapore 089855

Burnt Ends

Popular grill house Burnt Ends comes in at 14, down nine spots from last year. Almost everything here – from quail eggs to dry aged ribs – goes through their custom grills or two-oven brick kiln’s heat and smoke. Be it meat, fish, fowl or vegetables, Burnt Ends writes new menus daily and believes that there is magic that comes from cooking with wood. You might come out smelling rather smoky, but the ventilation is still very good. Even if you sit by the ovens, the air is clear and the room temperature is comfy at 20-ish degrees.

Address: 20 Teck Lim Road, Chinatown, Singapore 088391

Les Amis

Les Amis dropped two spots, from 11 to 13 this year, but the establishment is still the fine dining restaurant in Singapore. Helmed by Sebastien Lepinoy, the French-born chef spent a total of 17 years with Joël Robuchon before he joined the Les Amis group. Classic Lepinoy dishes include cold angel hair pasta with kombu, caviar and black truffle; line-caught sea bass from France’s Saint Gilles Croix de Vie; sea urchin soufflé with sauce anisé and kristal caviar.

Odette

Owner-chef Julien Royer helmed the acclaimed Jaan for several years before opening Odette. His food, combined with best-in-class hospitality has seen Odette take first place as Asia’s Best Restaurant for the last two years, and second in 2021. Described as honest food with a steep respect for ingredients, only the highest quality products from specialist artisans across the world are used – from Europe to Asia and Australia. Think signature dishes like Normandy brown crab with wasabi oil and Nashi pear, and Kampot pepper-crusted pigeon.
