7 Hawker Gems to Try in Beauty World Food Centre

Located on the top floor of an old school building, Beauty World Food Centre is probably one of the most underrated hawker centres in Singapore. Having been around since the 1980s, today you’ll still find some of the OG stalls around along with newer kids on the block. With around 40 stalls here, here are some of the best to check out.

1. Penang Home Made Beef Ball

The owner’s family has been making beef balls for over 60 years now, with his brother running the stall in Penang. Everything here is $5, and you’ll find dishes such as Beef Ball Noodle Soup, Mixed Beef Noodle Soup, Braised Brisket Noodle, Beef Hor Fun, Beef Fried Rice and more. For those who love collagen-rich food, we’ve also heard great things about their Braised Beef Brisket and Tendon Noodles!

2. Top 1 Home Made Noodle

Top 1 Home Made Noodle is one of the most popular stalls here and it’s not uncommon for folks from all over the island to make their way here just for their ban mian. Here, you can customise it how you want it. Pick from four different types: soup, tom yum, hot and spicy, or dry. Noodles wise, you have mee hoon kway, you mian, ban mian, mee suah, bee hoon, Hong Kong mee, and egg noodles. There are also premium ingredients available, such as fresh prawns, fish maw or abalone. No matter what you pick, it’s sure to make for a real hearty and satisfying meal!

3. Hong Wen Mutton Soup

Mutton soup is something that is becoming more uncommon in Singapore, as not everyone likes the gamey taste and scent. But Hong Wen Mutton Soup is still going strong and they’ve been at it for over 40 years! Choose from Mutton Stomach Soup, Mutton Soup, Mutton Tendon Soup or Mixed Mutton Soup. Expect fall-off-the-bone meat and fragrant soup with herbal notes!

4. Buta Kin

Yes, you can get a great bowl of ramen in a hawker centre too! Buta Kin serves hearty ramen and udon for just under $7, and they’re full of ingredients like veggies, charsiu, black fungus and an onsen egg. The broth is tonkotsu-based and you can customise it how you like with black garlic oil or spicy chilli paste.

5. Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Noodle Rice

Run by a mother-daughter duo, this stall draws in the relatively long queue so be prepared to wait during peak hours. You can get their soya sauce chicken with hor fun, rice or noodles. Another great option is the dumpling noodles. The dumplings are filled with minced meat, prawns and black fungus and are freshly hand made daily!

6. Jin Li Satay Bee Hoon

Jin Li Satay Bee Hoon has been here for almost 40 years. From $4 onwards, you can get a plate of satay bee hoon filled with ingredients such as pork, kang kong, prawns, cuttlefish and cockles. Of course, everything is generously drenched with a satay gravy that’s peanut-y, complex, creamy and mildly spicy.

7. Pink Candy

Craving for Korean food? Pink Candy is one of the newer stalls around dishing out a variety of Korean classics. You’ll find bibimbap, ginseng chicken, seafood stew and of course – fried chicken! Bigger groups can go for the army stew, and their kimchi also deserves a special shoutout. Made with apples for a sweeter taste, it is a definite must-try!
