8 CNY-Themed Masks to Match Your CNY Outfits

This year, our CNY #ootd would require a new accessory to match – face masks!

These CNY-themed masks will spice up your outfits and make for great conversation starters (or conversation enders, as you will see.) Here are eight reusable masks to choose from!

"No boyfriend/girlfriend, not getting married, not having children yet" masks

Many of us are already dreading the annual interrogation session by our very kay-poh relatives:

"Are you seeing someone?"

"When getting married ah?"

"When wanna have children ah?"

In a bid to make light of this situation, local brand wheniwasfour has created some face masks that will save you the trouble of answering your relatives this CNY. All you have to do is point at your mask.

For the single and (un)available, this mask says, “Gong xi fa cai. I don't have a boyfriend, I don't have a girlfriend”.

For the happily attached but do not plan on getting married yet, this mask will hopefully protect you from the kaypoh aunties.

And lastly, married couples who find themselves getting bombarded by questions about their rate of reproduction can put on this mask.

Cheongsam-inspired masks

Pair your cheongsam with a matching cheongsam face mask! Designed by Joanne Ual, these beautiful masks come in six designs and colours. There are also both adult and children-sized masks, so you can go matchy with your daughter, or your niece so you look like the cool aunt. Pre-orders are open, so check out her IG page for more info!

Gold sakura mask

This beautiful textured mask peppered with motifs of Japanese sakura is a great way to dress up an outfit or break up a monochromatic look. We love that it comes in blue and red so you and your SO can coordinate your outfits!

Mahjong mask

Apart from the red packets and snacks, a large part of CNY also involves some gambling. For the mahjong fans, this mask is a showstopper. It's triple layered with an adjustable wire to accommodate the nose bridge, and comes in an origami folded style to fit a variety of face shapes. Order here!

Lion dance mask

Lion dances are cancelled this year, but you can still wear them on your face. Chinese mythology said that the creature Nian was chased away by loud music, firecrackers and villagers dressed up as lion-like creatures. Chase your enemies and bad juju away with this mask!

Prosperity cat mask

The Japanese lucky cat has made its appearance again, this time on a face mask to bring you wealth, prosperity and good fortune. Decked on a dark navy blue background, this mask is also reversible with adjustable ear loops, and triple layered to adhere to Singapore’s mask policy.

Panda and koi fish mask

Pandas are a symbol of balance and peace, and their black and white colours represent the yin and yang in Chinese culture. Koi fish on the other hand, symbolize good luck, abundance and perseverance. Emulate all these things with this face mask!

Pineapple mask

Chinese people love pineapples. They're known as auspicious fruits, as its name in Hokkien, “ong lai” sounds like “fortune is coming”. We love all things pineapple – just look at our obsession with pineapple tarts! This mask is adorable and we can most certainly see ourselves reusing this even after CNY!
