7 Places to Catch the NYE Fireworks

No thanks to Covid-19, we won’t be seeing the usual new year’s eve fireworks display at Marina Bay. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t end your year with a literal bang, as the fireworks will be set off at different heartlands areas, much like this year's NDP showcase.

Details have yet to be released, but they’ll most likely be going at the same spots as the NDP fireworks. Many folks were disappointed when they realized they weren’t able to catch them despite being in an open area, so take note of these vantage points for an almost front-row view!

Jurong Lake Gardens

Since the fireworks are likely to go off on the west side of Jurong Lake, near Boon Lay, Westies ought to secure a spot at Jurong Lake Gardens. Filled with flora and fauna, the sprawling gardens in the heartlands would make for a relaxing spot to catch the brilliant spectacle against the night sky.

101 Jurong East St 13

Jurong East, Bukit Panjang and Bukit Batok residents can catch the fireworks from the high-rise spot at 101 Jurong East Street 13 since Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is closed after 7pm. Located by the MRT tracks, this high-rise building will not only give you a vantage point to catch the fireworks but also makes for a stunning picture at night!

Sembawang Park

The best place to catch the display in the north is between Sembawang and Yishun, and Sembawang Park's your best bet since it’s by the water. The park is also a popular spot for a barbeque or picnic, which would make for a great outdoor NYE celebration – just make sure to practice social distancing and avoid mingling with other groups!

Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park

Fireworks tend to be set off over water so as to prevent any fire on land. Given the space on this side of town, the display might be smaller, but it’ll still be bright! Unlike tall HDB buildings, Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park has plenty of space for you to navigate until you find the right spot to kick back and enjoy the show.

Punggol Point Jetty

Living in the Northeast? Head to Punggol Point Jetty where the fireworks are likely to set above the waters. Once a quiet and small jetty, Punggol Point Jetty is now popular with many fishermen – a pretty interesting way to spend usher in the new year if that’s your thing!

Bedok Reservoir

There are plenty of nature spots for Bedok and Tampines residents to catch the fireworks, including Bedok Reservoir, where the floating boardwalks or the waterside platforms would make for the perfect setting to capture the dazzling display and its reflection on the water.

Tampines Quarry

A stone's throw away from Bedok Reservoir, the calm waters, untouched land and lack of tall building at Tampines Quarry has become a popular spot for anglers, bikers, drone enthusiasts, and now, fireworks admirers. Make sure to bring along some mosquito repellant with you, and wear proper shoes as the quarry is surrounded by thick foliage!
