5 New Attractions in Singapore We're Excited About

With the lack of travel we’re all scrambling for things to do that aren’t just catching a movie at the cinema, or checking out a new cafe for brunch. Thankfully, an ice cream museum and a thrilling new ride are some of the things we can look forward to!

Museum of Ice Cream

Set to open in August this year, the Museum of Ice Cream Singapore is the New York-based exhibition’s first foray outside of the US. This isn’t just your typical museum – you can expect over 14 multi-sensory experiences of ice cream that provoke imagination and creativity. There will be a Singapore-inspired “Dragon Playground”, a pink and yellow Banana Jungle, and the largest MOIC Sprinkle Pool ever created!

Located in the Dempsey area, MOIC will also feature a cafe, bar and retail shop open to the public. Everyone will be able to indulge in specialty milkshakes, light bites, beverages, and of course scoops of delicious signature ice cream flavours!

Ticketing is already open, with prices starting at S$42 per person and discounted rates in groups of two or more.

Slingshot

Also set to open in the next half 2021, Slingshot is a thrilling ride in Clarke Quay that will be replacing the G-Max Reverse Bungee, which stopped operating about two years ago. The Slingshot will be Asia’s tallest, with thrill seeking riders catapulted almost 70m into the air, reaching a speed of 160km/h.

Ticket prices will be similar to the GX-5 Extreme Swing, which costs about S$45 for adults and S$35 for students.

SkyHelix Sentosa

Not an adrenaline junkie? The SkyHelix Sentosa will be Singapore’s first open-air panoramic attraction, offering scenic views of Sentosa and the Southern Waterfront. We’ll have to wait a little longer for this though – it is only set to open in 2022. The futuristic-looking beacon will be located at the Imbiah Lookout, a stone’s throw away from Sentosa’s cable car station.

Tropical Montane Orchidetum

Located within the National Orchid Garden, the latest attraction in Botanic Gardens is an air-conditioned glass house with dreamy trails. It recreates the experience of ascending through a tropical montane forest, while showcasing a diversity of orchids and plants. The whimsical glass house has a temperature of 16 to 23°C, perfect for escaping the afternoon heat. It will take visitors through five different biogeographical regions: Malesia, Continental Southeast Asia and South Asia, Australasia, Afrotropics and the Neotropics.

Tropical Montane Orchidetum is already open, and the ticket price for Singapore residents is $5 for adults, $1 for students and $1 for seniors above 60. The standard rate is $15 for adults, $3 for students and $3 for seniors above 60. Entry is free for children under 12.

Coastal PlayGrove

The Coastal PlayGrove is a new exciting attraction for the young and the young at heart. Located in East Coast Park, the 4.5-hectare playground is where Big Splash used to be. The main highlight here is the four-storey Play Tower, which includes colourful climbing nets with fun obstacles. After conquering the tower, be rewarded by zooming down the three and four storey slides! Other highlights include a water play area, nature play garden and outdoor classroom.
