As our country enters the 4-week circuit breaker period, some, or perhaps most of us are fretting about what to do with ourselves and all that time indoors. We know that cabin fever can set in pretty quickly, so we're putting together a list of fun, seize-the-day things to do indoors!
Don't forget that we're all in this together, and it's not all bad. Fill your time with creative projects, home workouts and virtual tours, and you'll find yourself settling into the homebody life.
1. Binge on Netflix
Now you can fully unleash your inner couch potato. You know those films or TV series you’ve been meaning to watch for the longest time? Or the iconic ones, the Oscar-worthy ones, the difficult watches you didn’t have the time or weren’t fully in the mood for? Now’s the time. Need some ideas or can’t decide what to watch? Check out our picks of the best Netflix series here!
2. Hone your cooking skills
Don’t worry about not having Masterchef skills, because we’ve all gotta start somewhere, and there’s no better time than now to get experimenting in the kitchen. Not sure where to start? Take cooking lessons from Massimo Bottura, a Michelin-star chef who wants to help you get into your kitchen with a free cooking series on his Instagram page.
3. DIY a café-worthy cup of coffee!
Café-hopping might no longer be on the list of things that we can do, but that shouldn’t stop you from getting your caffeine fix. Why not try your hand at making your own cafe-worthy coffee at home? We especially love the super creamy Dalgona coffee that’s been trending on the internet lately, which is super easy to make at home.
4. Stuff your face (and support local eateries)
We might not be able to eat out anymore for the foreseeable, but that’s not to say we can’t still support our favourite F&B joints. Now’s a good time to continue showing your support by ordering take away or purchasing food vouchers – both will help local businesses (and delivery riders) tide through this difficult time!
5. Take virtual tours
Tourist spots, museums and galleries might’ve closed their doors, but don’t despair, because you can adapt to the new normal by going digital! Missing the cherry blossom season this year? Japan’s Weather News has released a compilation of videos so you can get a taste of the best blossom spots. Or view eerily empty tourist destinations such as Madrid’s Puerta del Sol, Rome’s Trevi Fountain and many more. In an artsy mood instead? Here’s a list of virtual museum tours.
6. Embark on an at-home fitness challenge
Might as well make full use of the time at home by committing to your health and fitness goals. Having your gyms and yoga studios closed isn’t an excuse to slack off! Turn to YouTube fitness channels for some inspiration and help. Some of our top picks include Yoga with Adriene, Blogilates, POPSUGAR Fitness and Group HIIT!
7. Bond over some games!
There’s no better time than now to bond with your housemates or family members, so get them together with some fun games. You really don’t need a lot to have a good time! Tune out of the world’s doom and gloom with this list of fun party games you can play at home.
8. Do some spring-cleaning
What about using this time to thoroughly spring clean your home? It might not sound like the most fun, but there’s really nothing like some Marie Kondo-ing to inject a breath of fresh air into your home – especially since you’re pretty much stuck there for the next 4 weeks. Not to mention, you can build a pile to donate to people in need when this is all over!
9. Live-stream a music gig or DJ set
There might not be any music festivals or concerts to go to for the foreseeable future, but lucky for us, artists are taking their music to the digital realm and organising concerts for virtual audiences. Check out this compilation of live music shows you can stream from the comforts of your own home!
10. Master the art of doing nothing
After going through the daily hustle and bustle for so long, most of us have forgotten how to slow down. With this circuit breaker, it’s time to catch up on sleep, dream, and do absolutely nothing. (May we also suggest picking up meditation?) By all means, pack as much as you can into this time, but don’t forget to take some time to switch off, until it’s time to go back out into the world again.
