Zouk Cinema Club to Open Its Doors On Oct 30

From nightclub, to dining pop-up, a spinning gym and now finally, a cinema. Nightlife venue Zouk's latest pivot in the Covid-19 pandemic is transforming their dance floor into a movie screening space, so make sure to kick off your heels for this.

Immerse yourself in a unique screening experience, with bi-monthly themed nights that will feature both newly released films and cult classics. Complete with Garrett popcorn, champagne and house pour spirits, the main room will be transformed into a cinema from Wednesday to Saturday nights, 6pm to 10.30pm, with one screening session per night showing two movies.

The cinema club will open to the public this Friday on Oct 30. And since it’s Halloween weekend, they will debut with screenings of The Sixth Sense and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

So what makes this ‘cinema club’ different from our regular cinemas and screening space? Apparently, Zouk will fully utilise their state-of-the-art lighting and sound system for some surround-sound goodness that would please any audiophile. On top of that, the cinema club has also promised a cinematic experience that’s out of the ordinary by welcoming guests to ‘express themselves and have fun’ during screenings. This means that you can cheer, cry, and react to the characters on screen to your heart’s content.

As you can see from these images, the cinema space will also be decorated according to theme. For the month of October and November, the space is decked out in lush velvet decor and decorated to mimic the cobbled streets of Montmartre, Paris, and the famous Red Mill of the Moulin Rouge cabaret. The theme for November is ‘For The Love Of Music’, and screenings will include the likes of Moulin Rouge, Grease and The Greatest Showman and other musical films.

The capacity is capped at 14 tables and 50 people a night. Table packages are priced at $75++ for one to two people on Wednesdays, including a jug of house pour spirits or the club's signature Long Island Iced Tea. For bigger groups of three to five people, the experience is priced at $175++ and comes with three jugs of drinks.

From Thursday to Saturday, the table packages are more expensive, priced at $150++  for one to two people with a bottle of Moet, and $350++ for three to five people with a bottle of Moet and Belvedere.

Entry is restricted to those aged 18 and above.

As with other cinema screenings, checking in with the TraceTogether app or token is compulsory. This means that guests will no longer be able to check in by scanning SafeEntry QR codes with their phone cameras, the Singpass mobile app, or bar codes on their NRICs.

Drinking experience will also be different, as covers will be used for ice buckets, and lids will be used to cover glasses and champagne flutes at all times.

It looks like the usual nightlife events will not be returning anytime soon, and this is the new normal for nightlife in Singapore. Regardless, we’d say that pivoting from a nightclub to cinema club is quite the smart move to make!
