Whatever your reason, whether you’re here to build strength and endurance, conquer your fear of heights or just for some fun with friends, here are some of the best spots for rockclimbing in Singapore!
1. The Rock School
If you are brand new to the sport, get acquainted at The Rock School where beginners of all ages are welcome – even senior citizens and those as young as four! You can choose to learn through classes and programmes, or get one of the passes which allows you to climb any of its walls and auto belays, or with friends. Amenities wise, the climbing gym has over 30 lanes of walls as well as a 4.5-metre-tall bouldering area. The climbing routes here are also refreshed on a weekly basis, so you’ll always be expecting a new challenge!
2. Clip ‘n Climb HomeTeamNS
The first to bring the New Zealand Clip ‘n Climb system to Singapore, this climbing gym is a great way for casual climbers to get in on the action – with a twist! The 19 walls in this gym each present a unique vertical challenge that requires both brain and brawn. Make sure to try the transparent wall where you can climb face-to-face with your buddy, or wacky routes that reminds you of tetris or lego. This gym is also kid-friendly, and it’s equipped with TruBlue automatic belays and a high-tech braking system to keep you safe while you’re climbing.
3. Climb Central
Situated in Kallang Wave Mall, Climb Central is one of the most popular climbing gyms in Singapore and home to the tallest indoor air-conditioned rock face in Singapore. If you’re new to the sport, Climb Central will get you climbing in no time even if you have no experience. All it takes is a simple 15-minute crash course and you’re good to go! Each climbing lane has grips that are colour coded according to difficulty level and it’s a great training ground. You don’t even need a friend since Climb Central has auto-belay lines!
4. Boulder Movement
We all know about class passes that give us access to classes and gyms. Conveniently located in the CBD, Boulder Movement also has all-inclusive class passes for climbing courses! This bouldering-only facility has over 30-metres of wall in length. Even though they don’t go higher than four metres, it is certainly high enough considering that you will climb without any gear. The walls are also refreshed regularly, so don’t always expect the same stuff!
5. Kinetics Climbing
Whether you prefer top rope or bouldering, Kinetics Climbing has it all. With a variety of unique walls to suit different climbing styles and techniques, the customized routes are perfect for climbers of different levels. This climbing gym also has bouldering and climbing classes, as well as private coaching sessions and climbing kinetics if you’re really looking to work on your technique!
6. Oyeyo Boulder Home
Oyeyo Boulder Home is a cosy bouldering gym tucked away in Mackenzie Road. The gym might be small compared to the others on this list, but it’s a great one if you’re just starting out and don’t want 100 people looking at you as you struggle on the wall, or if you’re looking for a climbing gym without all the ruckus. It’s a great spot to spend the weekends, and the next door Owl’s Brew has great beers for after your climbing sesh.
