Face masks are now an indispensable part of our lives, and other than the fashionable, reusable fabric masks made to complement our wardrobes (or moods), researchers and manufacturers are now creating some pretty interesting designs.
Enter the strapless face mask.
Before you ask, what’s the point in sticking this tiny piece of mask on your face when it only covers the nose and mouth? One thing's for sure, the VX mask isn’t meant for your mundane trips to the supermarket.
With salons, spas and aesthetic clinics now allowed to operate, some of us out there might still be wary of indulging in these treatments due to hygiene and safety reasons – especially if it requires us to be maskless and in close contact with our therapist, such as during a facial.
Pioneer of Korean aesthetics in Singapore, Dr SM Yuen of Atlas Medical Derma-Regen Clinic is exploring his latest invention of the strapless face mask that leaves most of the face exposed for ease of treatments.
The patent-pending mask uses a self-adhesive medical grade hypoallergenic tape that creates a seal around the nose and mouth that can last for as long as six to eight hours (shorter if you have an oily complexion). The mask can also be removed for eating or drinking and reapplied up to six times.
The VX mask meets international standards (ASTM F2100 and ISO 10993-5) and it is a standard surgical 3-ply mask with two hydrophobic non-woven layers and a middle melt-blown filter. It is also said to be much more comfortable as compared to regular masks, since it allows for more breathability and less “air trap” between the mask and your face.
Which also means good news for glasses-wearers: it helps to reduce fogging of glasses due to the smaller amount of air trapped in the mask!
And of course, with this mask we will no longer need to shy away from beauty and doctor's appointments where straps could get in the way. Now you can get your comedone extractions and new haircut with a peace of mind!
The VX Mask comes in both small and large sizes and will be available for sale in boxes of 40s at $0.90 per piece ($36 per box), at Atlas Medical Derma-Regen Clinic, located in Ngee Ann City.
