6 Most Instagram Worthy Christmas Decorations in Singapore to Check Out in 2020

We might not have snow in Singapore, but we’ve got the glow of stunning light decorations every year! Where to go to get into the festive mood and which are the most Instagram worthy events and installations to see? We’ve picked out some of our top Christmas events that will light up your IG feed too.

Christmas on a Great Street

See the streets of Orchard from Tanglin Mall to Dhoby Ghaut decked with dazzling lights and decorations. The center stage this year is at the junction of Orchard and Paterson, where a giant blue ribbon, glitter-coated reindeers, and beautiful hollies greet you. The entire 2.88-kilometer stretch in white, gold and blue, and this year, no matter where you are, you will be able to see the lights online with a 360-degree virtual drive.

Magical Pinwheel Tree at ION Orchard

ION is dressed to impress. Make sure to catch the main star that is the first-ever Magical Pinwheel Tree. Standing at almost 20-metres tall, the tree represents life and resilience – a reflection of 2020. The magical installation has an illuminated core made with over 250 sustainable pinwheels generating a dynamic light sequence. What’s more impressive about it is the fact that it’s interactive, so go give it a spin and watch it light up!

Christmas Wonderland

Gardens by the Bay's annual Christmas Wonderland holds a special place in our hearts. But much like every other event this year, it’s taking on a whole new look as a hybrid event, packed with interactive content and games for all ages, tune in to festive performances or shop to your heart’s content right in the comfort of your home. Most importantly, see the Gardens light up with whimsical decor and dazzling lights. The iconic luminarie sculptures may also make a comeback this year!

Poinsettia Wishes

We might not be able to travel to Europe right now, but the Flower Dome’s signature floral displays will make a return with the well-loved Poinsettia Wishes. This year will feature the creative input of the Dutch Ambassador to Singapore, Margriet Vonno, and highlights include a replica of Gouda City Hall, an iconic landmark in the Netherlands visited by many for a yearly Christmas light-up, as well as a wishing well. Of course, no Poinsettia Wishes display will be complete without festive plants such as poinsettias, cyclamens, pansies, hellebores and real Christmas trees!

A Universal Christmas

Get into the festive spirit at Universal Studios Singapore’s (USS), where the minions from Despicable Me will be out and about, alongside Sesame Street friends, Madagascar characters, Shrek and Princess Fiona. While waiting for Santa Claus (here's hoping the Covid travel restrictions won't hinder him), the streets of New York will be decked in lights and interactive movie sets, such as a hot air balloon and a topsy turvy Christmas house.

SEAASON of Rediscovery

The S.E.A Aquarium is bringing you whole-new experiences this holiday season where you can immerse yourself in sights and sounds like never before. The aquarium will be transformed with specially designed light effects and fascinating soundscapes, along with new zones like ‘Shipwrecked!’, where you’ll see how a ship’s end of service leads to the birth of a thriving new habitat, as silhouettes of majestic sharks glide by above you. Be dazzled by the Coral-ful Wall, which isn’t just educational, it is also visually stunning – perfect for that IG shot.
