10 Things To Do in Singapore This Week

We are getting close to Phase 3 and many restaurants, bars, and attractions have resumed activity, with physical events slowly coming back. This week, catch international luminaries, support local talents, catch the action of One: Inside the Matrix, and get into the spirit of Deepavali!

Singapore Writer’s Festival

Get your noses out of your books, because it’s almost time for the 23rd edition of Singapore Writers Festival. Like many other events this year, the festival will be held in a digital format. Inspired by this year's theme of 'intimacy', international headliners will include the author of best-seller White Teeth, Zadie Smith, and poet of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Life on Mars, Tracy K Smith. From Oct 30 to Nov 8, take part in online experiences taking the form of digital installations, podcasts, and vodcasts while also enjoying thought-provoking panel discussions, workshops, readings, and exhibitions.

ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX

ONE Championship returns to the Singapore Indoor Stadium on October 30 for another round of must-see bouts: ‘The Burmese Python’ Aung La N Sang defends his ONE Middleweight World Title against the undefeated Reinier De Ridder. ONE Lightweight World Champion Christian Lee takes on number-one contender Iuri Lapicus in a battle between fierce finishers. Knockout artists Martin Nguyen and Thanh Le collide with Nguyen’s ONE Featherweight World Title on the line. And ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion Xiong Jing Nan meets Singapore’s very own Tiffany Teo in an epic rematch.

Tickets are sold out, but you can still catch all the action on ONE Super App, and ONE's social media channels, as well as Channel 5 and meWatch app.

Days – and counting

Does the new normal feel like a surreal dream or a nightmare? To capture these strange times, OH! Open House is rolling out a "sleepwalking" digital art experience titled Days – and counting, a portrait of Singapore during the Covid-19 global event that has changed all of our lives.

Season 1: Walls Crumble will air on Oct 30 with some TV nostalgia. Through the old-school Teletext, traverse a surrealist narrative of a sleeping man's dreamscapes. Delve deeper into the idea of home during the circuit breaker with unique artworks by local artists Ang Kia Yee, Hunny & Lummy, Kevin Fee, Pat Toh, and Tristan Lim – all without leaving the comfort of your home.

Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival 2020

Experience the annual Singapore Botanic Gardens Heritage Festival through online and onsite activities to celebrate the rich heritage of the Gardens. From 24 Oct to 1 Nov, the Gardens will bring you through a fun-filled journey with activities such as demos, exhibitions, museum tours and even a concert!

Little India Deepavali Light-Up

Every year, Little India shines a little brighter for Deepavali, the Festival of Lights, a celebration that symbolises the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. Deepavali falls on Nov 14 this year, but the festivities have started early as Little India is illuminated in a dazzling array of massive peacocks, lotus flowers, oil lamps and Mahalakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity in Hinduism, guarding Serangoon Road, which are just as impressive (if not more) as the Orchard Road Christmas Lights.

Once Upon a Deepavali – Our Shared Stories

From the comfort of your couch, explore the unique ways via online and on-site Deepavali programmes, about how the Festival of Light is observed in Singapore. Tap into the collective memory of various communities, as well as the customs and traditions that they observe. You can also take a trip down to the heritage centre for a trishaw trail that takes you around Little India!

Lights Up!

Love local theatre? Especially ones have you rolling over in laughter? Then mark your calendars for Lights Up!, an online 45-minute musical revue and collaboration between the Esplanade, Dream Academy, and National Arts Council. The project brings together more than 35 freelance artists, musicians, creatives, filming, and crew – as part of an initiative to provide support to freelance artists during this challenging Covid-19 period.

The Macallan Experience

The Macallan brings you a rare opportunity to experience their story and witness the moments that have defined them, as told through a series of rooms designed by award-winning cinematographers, creatives, and technologists. From 26 Oct to 10 Feb 2021, you are invited to an immersive, sensorial and memorable whisky journey, where you will be guided through the flavours of The Macallan, to touch the fire that seals the flavour into The Macallan’s oak casks, and to conduct a symphony of moving, story inspired art.

Masters of Speed Go Kart Time Attack

Here’s a fun outdoor activity for the whole family to do – speed demons of all levels and ages are invited to strap on their helmets for an electric go-kart competition. Clock your best timings for a chance to walk away with attractive prizes! The family-friendly event also allows kids as young as nine, as well as family teams consisting of one adult and one child to take part.

SSOPlayOn!

Under the banner SSOPlayOn!, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra's (SSO) continues with more concerts to be streamed from the stage to the comfort of your couch via Sistic Live. Delight in a trio of concerts led by the SSO's new Chief Conductor Hans Graf, including a programme pairing Richard Strauss’s Metamorphosen with Mozart’s “Gran Partita” Serenade on Nov 6 and many more.
