Kedai Makan Muhajirin
You know something is good when they've been in business for over 30 years. Situated at Toa Payoh, Kedai Makan Muhajirin serves up $1 nasi lemak. The stall almost closed down in 2018 when they were told to move out of the premises at block 18, but its loyal customers were clearly not ready for them to go. Speaking to Our Grandfather Story, stall owner Zaliah Ishak said its customers asked her, "How are we going to find $1 nasi lemak?" And with the encouragement of her husband, Kedai Makan Muhajirin reopened a stone's throw away from the old stall. Zaliah's daughter-in-law is also set to take over the business, so it looks like they'll be around for awhile! Surely they deserve a thumbs up?
