Authentic Hock Lam St Popular Beef Kway Teow
The OG Hock Lam Street Beef Kway Teow's origins go way back to 1911, when Mr Tan Chee Kok started a Teochew beef noodle stall in his hometown of Shantou, China. As it was the only trade he knew when he moved to Singapore, he sold them from two large pots slung on a bamboo pole across his shoulders. His son later joined him in the business, operating a street-side stall at Hock Lam Street. The business was then continued by three of Tan’s grandchildren, who each operated their own beef noodles stalls in different parts of Singapore. However, the only remaining one is Authentic Hock Lam Street Popular Beef Kway Teow at North Canal Road. Helmed by the fourth generation now, diners can choose from soup and dry versions and both are packed with ingredients. The thick-cut kway teow, sliced beef and meatballs are extremely rich and hearty.
