6 Must-Try Stalls at Adam Road Food Centre

Mainly known for the famous nasi lemak stalls here, Adam Road Food Centre is a great spot to grab a meal after your morning run at the Botanic Gardens, or a pit stop along your way on the Coast-to-Coast (C2C) Trail. From nasi lemak to satay, prawn noodles and chicken rice, you’ll find a whole host of multi-ethnic cuisines at Adam Road Food Centre!

1. Selera Rasa Nasi Lemak

No matter what time you’re here, there’s no escaping the snaking queue at this famous nasi lemak stall. In our opinion, it’s very much worth the wait! The family recipe places emphasis on four crucial components: the basmati rice, sambal chilli, chicken wing and otah otah. True enough, their rice is incredibly fragrant, the sambal and otah just the right level of spice, and the chicken is perfectly crispy on the outside, tender on the inside!

2. No.1 Adam’s Nasi Lemak

The other popular nasi lemak stall here definitely holds its own against its fierce competitors! You’d also need plenty of patience here as the queue moves rather slowly and, at times, not at all. However you’ll be rewarded with a plate of fluffy, coconut-y rice, with your choice of sides. Take your pick from the Fish Set ($4), Chicken Set ($4), Sutra Special ($5.50), and Adam’s Special ($5.50) which includes mutton rendang!

3. Adam Road Noo Cheng Big Prawn Noodle

A Michelin Bib Gourmand stall, Noo Cheng has been serving their signature Big Prawn Noodles ($8/$10/$12) for over 30 years. The prices are steep for a hawker dish, but you get a really hearty portion of springy noodles served with huge, meaty prawns. And how could we forget their umami broth? Prawn shells, pork bones and chicken bones all go into making this yummy concoction.

4. Adam Chicken Rice

The Malay-style chicken rice definitely differs from the oilier Hainanese chicken rice, but it is still intensely fragrant in its unique way! The chicken is roasted with a crisp skin, while the inside is still juicy. The rice is also slightly yellow and flavourful, which the owners here have said that it's cooked from a secret recipe they cannot reveal

5. Zaiton Satay

Craving for satay? Choose from beef, chicken or mutton skewers grilled to perfection. With a crispy char, subtle smokiness, and flavourful meat, there’s nothing not to love about Zaiton Satay. Each stick is at $0.70 with a minimum order of 10.

6. Bahrakath Mutton Soup King

For steaming-hot, peppery bowls of sup kambing, Bahrakath Mutton Soup King is your go-to. From $8 and up, you can get a bowl of mutton soup full of your choice of ribs, mutton leg or innards. Make sure to order some pillowy bread to help mop up all the soup! You won’t want to waste a single drop.
